Happy Thursday all. So I really want to up my posting schedule and bring you some interesting finds from the inter web. So, unless you’ve been living under a rock, or perhaps less dramatically, if you’re a normal person and not a fashion slave, you’ve seen the Bottega Veneta padded leather mules. Now whilst I thought these were cute, and they are, there’s just something about them that’s a bit too trendy for me. When going for shoes, especially expensive shoes, it pays to look for styles that are timeless.
I’ve had a love for mules for a long time, check out my previous post on mule sandals, here
When it comes to the mule trend, I much prefer Bottega’s stretch leather mule. Now in an ideal world I would be snapping these up, but I’ll admit, they’re a bit out of my budget while I’m on maternity leave. That said, I’ve be trawling the internet to find a more affordable pair I can add to my wishlist. For me, it’s important that a dupe be similar to the original, but I’ll always choose quality over an exact replica.
I was so excited when I cam across this pair on Dune. They are very similar to the Bottega mules in terms of the heel and the shape of the sandal. I think they are a classic shoe, one that will be in fashion time and time again. Mules have been on trend for a couple of seasons, but they have a long history. Originally designed as footwear for the bedroom, they became the chosen footwear of prostitutes in the 1800s. It wasn’t until the 1990s when styles like the Manolo Blahnik Maysale mules came out that they became high fashion. Given that almost 30 years later you can still buy a new pair of these, I’d say they can be called a classic.
Mules aren’t for everyone, but personally I love them. I think they’re classic, chic and in my experience a comfy and versatile shoe.
