  • International Women’s Day

Happy Friday people and happy international women’s day. I could not let the occasion pass without posting something on the blog.

Never has there been a time where the emphasis around women has been so great. From the Metoo campaign to the gender pay gap and everything in between. This is a moment in history when many can say they stood up and were counted.

As women we wear so many hats now. We are still mothers to our children, wives to our husbands the career professional or the stay at home mum. Add blogging and content creation and a whole host of other ventures and you can see why for some women life can be a strain. On top of all that, it’s most likely that the most significant women in your life also looks after all that emotional labour- making sure that everyone else has what they need to be successful in their day, often leaving nothing for themselves.

The theme for this year is #balanceforbetter. Whilst the main focus is on gender balance I think it speaks to the broader need for women to gain balance in their lives. Balance across the many roles we need to fulfil and ensuring there is enough left in the tank for ourselves.

It’s all a collective effort and we can each do a little something to show our appreciation to all the boss ladies doing wonderful things in your life. At work it’s about standing up for injustices and not subscribing to sexist behaviour ( you can make your own tea sir).

The first international women’s day was in 1911. Look how far we’ve come but there is still a mountain to climb. For this year and beyond, we need to accelerate the agenda. Galvanise women across the world to know their worth and get a fair deal.
