You may remember my post T Re: What’s in My Makeup Bag well since then I’ve added a couple of bits that are now essentials in my makeup routine. Having oily skin, my main struggle is shine. For the longest while it seemed no matter what I did my makeup would be sliding off by the end of the day. It was literally to the point when my colleagues knew if a piece of work was mine because there would be a least one brown foundation smudge somewhere on the document. Well no more! I have discovered both Primer and Translucent Powder.

IMG_0588I decided to try out Laura Mercier. I have seen rave reviews on line and in terms of the translucent powder, the fact they cater for darker skin tones was a real selling point. Yes, it’s supposedly translucent, but I’m sorry those white powders leave some of us dark skinned beauties looking like wannabe geisha girls – not cute. Anyway, I picked mine up from John Lewis and the sales assistant was lovely and informative. When she applied the powder to my face, I was like ‘really, where has this been all my life?’ For the primer, She explained the different choices – they have one for dry skin, one for people with acne, one that’s a bit glowy and then the oil free one which is what I bought.

I’m not going to lie, my oil is real and it fights through the primer and powder, but what’s different is rather than causing my makeup to slide off, the oil sits on top so all I have to do is blot and there’s hardly any brown on the tissue which means my makeup stays on my face! Win!

IMG_0578Of course I’m still using the Estée Lauder Doublewear Foundation. I think I’ll be buying this again. After using a Mac pressed powder for years, I was worried the liquid would be too heavy, but it glides on and then stays on. I use the Bdellium Tools stippling brush to apply my foundation.

IMG_0590I’ve also gone back to applying eye liner with a brush. I love the Maybelline Gel Eye Liner, it comes with its own brush and it’s perfect for getting a defined line.

    Until the next post peeps…
