  • 5 life lessons I’ve learned recently

It’s been a little while since I’ve laid out a more thoughtful piece, and recently I feel like the universe has been trying to focus my attention. So, this week I thought I’d share some of the lessons I feel have been planted in front of my face on purpose recently. I’d love to know if you can relate to any of them.

    Tomorrow is made today

This is one I’ve know for a little while. Do you see people or have a friend who always seems like they’re off on a new adventure, or their diary is jam packed with events. Or, that person who always looks put together, shows up early but still had time to stop for a coffee and grab some photos of the area. Well chances are that person sat down in the week or weeks prior and intentionally set out the day that way. So, if you’re wondering why your spending so much money on lunches each week, while looking at your colleague with the meal prepped Tupperware of pasta, then you know why.

I want to live my life more intentionally. Always actively taking steps toward my goals, rather than allowing the years to pass by and wonder where the time went.

Say what you want, not what you don’t want

I forget what exactly I was listening to but this has come up a number of times also. It’s so easy to go around moaning how unfair life is. How you don’t have this or that, or you don’t like your 9to5, or perhaps you’re bored with no hobbies. How often do you sit and think about what you do want and actively take steps toward it? If you don’t like your job, when was the last time you looked for a new one? Have you considered other avenues?

Also, if you believe in the law of attraction then moaning all the time is just going to bring more misfortune in to your life. Instead, focus on the good, create situations that get you closer to what you want. The most important thing is to know what you want in the first place.

You’ll never figure it all out

The above in mind, it’s also important to know – we’ll never have it all figured out. A lot of times we put pressure on ourselves, often about things we have no control over. I think it’s much better to accept what life brings your way, good and bad. When bad things happen we can let it destroy us, accept it and move on or think about what lesson there is to learn and apply it to the future.

We shouldn’t put so much pressure on ourselves and have strict expectations for our future. Yes, you can have intention, but this needs to be balanced with awareness that some things are not in your control. That doesn’t mean you’ve failed, you just might need to take a different route.

    Don’t assume other people’s reactions

So often, I’ll assume that someone won’t want to do something. Or, I assume I’m putting them out so I won’t bother asking for help. Most of the time I’m wrong. This is a very simple point so I don’t feel the need to elaborate, but in short- let others decide for themselves. Equally, we shouldn’t take offence if they’re reaction doesn’t meet our expectation.

    Our personalities are not static

I think this is a very important one. So many will do wrong and say, well that’s just the way I am, or apply that saying, you can’t teach an old dog new tricks. We need to get out of this mindset. So long as you have brain function, you can grow and change. This also applies to recognising your own negative habits and actively improving on your interactions with other, but also the thoughts you reserve for yourself. Lord knows we can be our own worst critic. We are defined by who we are and this is not necessarily who you used to be or who you will become.

“Don’t assume other people’s reactions”. I like that. Something we should all be wary of.
