  • Leaving it to fate

Life’s hard! Sorry, that sounds a bit dramatic, but it’s true. We all go about our daily lives and sometimes, at least for me, it all gets a bit too much. All the daily decision making, not to mention thinking about long term goals and the fact tomorrow is made today. Urggghh! If that’s not enough to make your head feel like it’s about to explode, well you’re a stronger person than I am, share your secret to keeping it all together please! To date, there’s only one method I’ve had any luck with and it’s called, leaving it to fate.

I know it’s not necessarily the biggest revelation you’ll hear in a lifetime, but often the most effective solutions are the simplest ones. By leave it to fate, I mean don’t spend too much time worrying about unknown’s. Yes, we need intentions, but for the things not within our immediate control, we should leave a little space for the universe to work it’s magic.

Here are some methods I’ve found useful for letting things go, you know, suppressing the need to micromanage everything.

    Write it all down

I keep a daily journal in an app called OneNote. A journal and much more, I basically plan myself life in it, but anyway the point is, it’s a way for me to lay down my thoughts. Sometimes when faced with an obstacle, it helps to write out what it is and the options available to you, or potential plans of action. The trick is, once that’s done, just get in the habit of leaving it to one side. The act of articulating your fears can sometimes lead to subconscious solutions that you then naturally gravitate toward. Before you know it, decision made problem solved.

    Pray

I know, not everyone is religious. I certainly am though! I find prayer so comforting. For me it’s as simple as, something can’t come from nothing in this universe so there must be a higher power. Without going too deep, it comforts me to just hand over the problems I can’t solve. To trust that the Lord has a plan and if I just be patient enough and look for the signs, I don’t need to figure out my problems alone.

    Gratitude

When I am at my most lost, I find that simply taking stock of all the things to be grateful for in my life really helps. As far as I’m concerned, the fact that we wake up everyday with yet another chance to do and be better is the biggest blessing. Taking a minute to notice the seasons, the expressions on people’s faces as you commute or simply to notice the cadence of your own breathing. These are all moments to be grateful for. When you think this way, very little else seems important and hence worry is so far removed from your existence it doesn’t even come in to the mix.

I know some people aren’t in to all this ‘fluffy’ stuff, but I think In the rat race of life and with the increased awareness around mental health, coping mechanisms are key. If you’ve found any of this helpful I’d love to know in the comment or if you have your own suggestions.
