  • Personalising your Workspace

Hey my lovelies, today I’m talking about personalising your workspace. Whether you work from home or commute in to an office, it is very important to define your working space so that it puts you in the right frame of mind to be productive, effective and to basically hit those goals. I, like many of you, have a day job and for me at times it can be a fairly high stress environment. I have found more and more that adding those little touches, that suit your personality, really help me to maintain my sanity. All I have to do is look at my little elephant and feel just a tad more peaceful. Crazy I know, but if you like to show a little creative flare then this might just be for you. Here are a few ways you can personalise your workspace.

    Plants

I have two, a Ficus and another I don’t know the name of. The minute I got them I knew it was a great idea. They add some much needed colour to what is a very bland desk. Plats are living things, they require water and a little attention evey now and then which is a great reminder to take a break. It’s also a constant reminder of growth and change.

    Ornaments

This is an easy one. A surefire way to a personalised space is to fill it with things you like. I intend to add a few more bits in this category, but I want the items to mean something when I look at them so I’m holding out for the good stuff. I already mentioned my elephant, it was given to me by a colleague, but I’ve always had a thing for elephants and what they symbolise, according to wikipedia:

Many African cultures revere the African Elephant as a symbol of strength and power. It is also praised for its size, longevity, stamina, mental faculties, cooperative spirit, and loyalty. South Africa, uses elephant tusks in their coat of arms to represent wisdom, strength, moderation and eternity.

    Things to promote healthy habits

The aim here isn’t to pack your desk out with purely decorative items or a load of useless crap (unless that’s your sort of thing), it’s also to add value. For me, I don’t drink nearly enough water. In the office, we have a water machine, but it has those really small disposable cups and I’m sorry, but I’m not diligent enough to remember to use the same cup each time, nor do I visit the machine often enough. I saw a colleague had brought in a really nice pitcher and glass set and I immediately went on the hunt for one of my own. It’s a way more eco-friendly way to drink water and reduce my single use cup addiction (Starbucks, I got your number). It’s also just that little bit more cizilised and I intend to add a nice plate and cutlery, after all I can potential consume two meals a day here.

I’d love to know if you personalise your space, especially in the office. What are your favorite things to add? Let me know in the comments.
