  • Regular Facials

Happy Saturday! This post should have gone up days ago, but better now than never. After a manic working week that included an impromptu conference in Amsterdam, I fell off my new productivity plan that I’ve been following. I think I’ve finally worked out the kinks, but that’s a different post altogether- let me know if you want to hear more on that in the comments. This post is another one in the “looking after myself files”, specifically skin and the need for regular facials.

Skin is so important, especially the skin on your face- being the most exposed and perhaps more sensitive than most of your body. For me, I simply want to tackle the issues that I have always suffered with, mainly lighter coloured patches around my chin and big pores. I also want to tackle my skin texture and I have definitely seen results from my daily skincare, but figured I can get additional results from regular facials.

I decided to try microdermabrasion and I also got to try out two electrical facial treatments, the Galvanic and the High Frequency. I arrived for my appointment straight after work with the remnants of my makeup and once removed you can see my uneven skin tone.

Microdermabrasion uses a pen like tool that buffs dead skin cells off and sucks up any nasties and oils. The results you can achieve include reducing lines, smoothing skin texture, minimised pores and reversing pigmentation issues. This is the first treatmemt I’ve had and my skin was immediately smoother and brighter. Obviously, nothing shows it’s true effects after one go and I’m hoping after a course of about 6, I’ll start to see impact on my skin pigment.

The Galvanic facial, also known as the “non-surgical face lift” uses mild electric currents to smooth skin and tighten the muscles. Blood circulation is also increased which is added nourishment for your skin cells. This kicks your muscles in to action to do their job of holding up your face, hence the name. It wasn’t painful, I would say it’s like tiny electric shocks but it was very mild.

Finally the high-frequency facial is one I definitely hadn’t heard of. My beautician recommended it as it was included in an offer they were running and it combats some of the issues I discussed earlier, such as large pores and fine lines. This treatment is pretty cool, but was probably the weirdest sensation of the three. I can only describe it as a purple light that zaps your skin. First we used a gauze to cover my face and then the High Frequency was applied, but the second time it was applied directly to my skin and that was not pleasant. I persevered for the spot zapping proprieties, but ouch, luckily I don’t get that many spots.

After… and all the crap that came off (some makeup

Anyway, it’s been a week and I have definitely noticed a smoothness to my skin and my pores are smaller. My makeup definitely applies better also. I definitely want to continue with the course of microdermabrasion as I feel that has the most powerful for evening skin tone.

I’ll be sure to update you in a future post on additional results. If there is anything you want to know about my experience so far that I haven’t mentioned, comment below.
