  • Style uniform

I seem to really be in to this whole optimise your life bug that’s going around. Everything from clearing out the bathroom cabinets and kitchen cupboards right through to curating a wardrobe I can be proud of. These will continue to be works in progress, but as someone short on time, even if I can find a way to save just a small amount in the morning I’ll do it. This brings me on to the style uniform.

I really recommend this book for getting started on organising your life.

What is a style uniform exactly? Well as with everything, I’m sure it means different things to different people- like literally wearing the same outfit everyday or something ludicrous like that. For me it’s more about have variations of the same cuts and elements to to an outfit. It’s about knowing what styles suit you and by and large, only buying items that fit in that category. Do you like skirts with blouses, jeans and a T-shirt or perhaps you’re in to dresses. The best way to find out is to think of the stuff you do regularly. I really think working a corporate environment has influenced my style. I tend prefer classic pieces with a smart casual vibe, but maybe you’re in to sports-luxe or something else entirely!

I basically took a look at my existing wardrobe, my Instagram feed and all the stuff I’ve pinned on Pinterest. The aim is to identify themes and trends in what you like. For me, I noticed that I like pretty much any silhouette with a cinched waist. I also noticed that as an inverted triangle body type, v-necks, a-line skirts and dresses suit me, but again it comes back to defining my waist.

Identifying my style is a bit of a godsend really. I know I am a lover of fashion, but sometimes it’s easy to get overwhelmed by all the trends on the high street and the plethora of choice available online.

I’m really looking forward to building a wardrobe of my style staples and then a mix of signature pieces. My intention is to factor in sustainability for purchases going forward and knowing what suits me will hopefully help me to invest in the items I know I’ll wear time and time again.

Let me know if you have a style uniform. Also, if you would like to know more about exactly home to build a style uniform, let me know in the comments as I am planning to do mini series on the blog.
