So my last post was about denim dresses and for fear of sounding like a broken record, I come to you with a more than current trend of the moment – the denim mini skirt. I have literally been living in them since we have been experiencing this prolonged stint of glorious heat and sunshine.

Let’s face reality though. Denim skirts are no more a trend than a t-shirt is. I would even go so far as to say they are a staple. I have had a number of denim miniskirts over the years and I think the catwalks do what they do best, remind us of and put a new twist on styles of the past.

The thing with denim miniskirts is that they are versatile. They go with pretty much any kind of top you want to put on. I have been favouring shirts and t-shirts, but just as easily vests and off the shoulder tops. Dressed up or down with heels or flats you have an outfit appropriate for most occasions.

Being on the shorter side, an added draw is that the mini skirt, in all its forms, tends to make your legs look longer.

So what’s your mini denim skirt persona? I’m definitely a Moto girl. If you actually come across a meaning for “moto” let me know, but as far as I can tell, in the context of denim miniskirts this is your basic kind. We are talking a block colour mini that is otherwise not embellished. I picked up this black one recently from Zara and I think it works well with the OMG print T-shirt. I’d love to pair it with this black croc over the shoulder bag from The Kooples, but hey, goals!

Another fave is the contrast stitch denim mini. The stitching just adds that little bit of something extra and makes the denim look more high end. The extra detail also elevates the look and allows the denim to work in a more sophisticated environment.

Embroidered denim mini skirts. This is the fun angle. I can picture this being worn to a fun day out, a park, a picnic, go-karting. What ever the occasion the added patterns and texture are really pretty and brighten the outfit. Given that a lot is going on on the bottom I would recommend a simple top, perhaps a Cami or plain shirt.

Distressed denim mini skirts are my final pick. I love the grungy effect you get from a frayed hemline and fading. That washed too many times look can really add personality to to an outfit. I especially like to pair it with a white shirt, or any kind of structured top. The contrast between a good tailored piece and the distressed material is more than pleasing to the eye.

I love miniskirts in summer! I agree with you, the stitching really does make a difference, and just makes the whole outfit stand out when its done right! Also just the right shade of blue can make all the difference! Such an inspiring read, thank you so much!
