If you’ve been following me you’ll know I’m relatively new to this. I’ve always loved fashion, but got stuck in a rut buying work clothes over the years. Now that I have my blog, I’ve created a space where I can re-explore fashion and the things I like.
I’ve been buying up a storm recently and I honestly don’t know how I spent this long not looking at the latest trends and bulking out my capsule wardrobe. My sense of style is definitely more on the classic side, but I like to mix in pieces that add a little edge to the outfit. I walk around in heels most of the time and for me this season it was important for me to bulk out my boot collection.
Boots
Guess Ankle Boots – these leather boots, I love! They are business in the front and all play at the back. I love the studs on the heel and they’re not too garish. I love wearing this as part of an all black outfit.
Over the knee boots – I’ve picked up two new pairs recently in black here and in ‘greige’ here , from Dorothy Perkins of all places. I haven’t shopped there for years but they have had some really nice pieces recently, especially when it comes to shoes and boots. I loved these boots so much I got them in both colours. What I love is that the material actually fits my calf and stays up over the knee without looking like my circulation is being cut off. Also, the ankles don’t sag too much. I’ve had these boots two weeks and I’ve worn both pairs more than once already.
Here I’m wearing one of my favourite winter outfits of the moment, which includes the lighter colour boot. Then below the black boots with a faux leather skirt.
Bottoms
This month I’ve practically lived in these two items. You can see both above, one is a black leather look skirt and then the black jeans are from Karen Millen. These jeans are the best I’ve ever had. They fit lovely and have a nice smooth feel to them. They were a bit pricey, but luckily I picked them up in the House of Fraser sale. My cost per wear is already down, ha!I bought them in a size 10 but I think I can go down to an 8 now, especially since they are stretchy.
Better basics
T-shirts – I’ve enjoyed playing around with dressing T-shirts up and down this month. Either with black jeans or a black skirt. Here I want to focus on quality. I’m looking for good material and something that will last. Basics don’t need to be plain either. I’ve realised I quite like pops of colour which is what this traditional Levi’s top adds to an outfit. Then you can do classic Parisian chic with the striped number shown above, also from Levi’s. M&S are also good for basics and I love their white t-shirts, at 100% cotton they are super hard wearing.
Knitwear – I really wanted to go for bulkier jumpers this season for my off duty style, whereas for work fitted knits are key!
I really love this fluffy black jumper from River Island – similar here, you would have seen me feature it in my post T Re: Off days. This jumper, black leggings or jeans and my Guess boots are a match made in heaven. I throw on my leather jacket (similar here) and a big scarf and I’m good to go.
Likewise, when I picked up this grey/cream absolute dream of a French Connection jumper (here), I knew I’d found the one. This jumper is so soft, it’s oversized so creates the right amount of drama and it goes with pretty much anything. I styled it up with a warmer palette, but I’ll also wear it with lighter tones.
As for work! I like a more fitted vibe. I find that fitted jumpers in winter are essential for work. Any, skirt or trouser combo will do, but for me it’s important to cinch the waist and put on a heel. I like more of a sleek professional look most days, so I keep my outfits fitted. That said, I am keen to explore wide leg trousers next…
Outerwear
Long line jacket – again in Dorothy Perkins, I picked up this Duster jacket in grey. It works great as a throw on item and I loved wearing it to work last week with this outfit… again with those boots, ha!
Coats – I still need to buy a new coat, a few actually and if I’m honest I’m waiting for the sales, which are imminent, but the cold has been cutting so I may just bite the biker. That said, I’ve been living in my camel colured coat from New Look – bought last year – Similar here. I definitley want to replace this coat with a new one in the same colour. Check out this post to see how I style it up Here
Faux Leather Jackets – again I want to replace these with real ones but that is going to take some time. Nonetheless, I love this red leather jacket from Abercrombie & Fitch (shown in the photos about) – similar here it goes so well with the warm tones of my scarf and boot combo.
We all know I live in my black faux leather jacket (similar here) from Miss Selfridge. It’s been freezing in London so layering has been key!
