Today’s post feels like perfect timing for me giving the weather. It has been snowing on and off across London today and I have had messages from friends and family in Birmingham where the last 24hrs has been described as a blizzard ha! For any Americans out there, here in England we consider more than an inch of snow insurmountable- everything shuts down transportation wise, heading into the office tomorrow should be fun!
For me being inside is no great tragedy and to be honest, I probably would have stayed in today even if it was blazing sunshine outside. I treasure my Sunday’s, this is when I recharge my batteries, physically and psychologically in preparation for the week ahead.
I have been feeling particularly festive this year and I know it has something to do with my fairly new blogger status. I’ve actually managed to stick at this for more six months and I love it. There’s a certain amount of accountability that comes with sticking parts of your life on the internet. For me this has given me the motivation to start going after my best life. I’m becoming more conscious of the things I like and it’s fun exploring my creative side.
This festive season has me reflecting on the past and I really have a lot to be grateful for. I’m blessed to have a lovely home and loved ones, so to me it’s a massive insult to let either languish unloved, especially at this time of year.
With these sentiments in mind I spent a bit of time making the house somewhat festive.
I decided to put the Christmas tree in our dining room this year. We don’t really use our front room as much as we have a lounge area in our bedroom as well, but we are always in the kitchen dining area. Basically this way we can see it properly everyday!
For the rest of the downstairs, I added touches of red and a makeshift garland to the bannister, with items I picked up from my local b&m store everyone likes a bargain, but the things aren’t necessarily cheap. This is the sort of store where you randomly find a good deal on something you might be looking for. I particularly like their candles they seem to sell a specific line of Yankee Candle I’ve never seen before. They’re like half the price but smell amazing, especially Sweet Pea. If there’s a b&m near you you should definitely pop in.
Candles have become a running theme in our house recently and definitely a habit I’d like to take forward in to 2018. I just love to see them burning. They help create a warm, homely atmosphere and there’s nothing like having a nice smelling home. I picked up this Dorma Almond Blossom & Pink Pepper Reed Diffuser and Candle from Dunelm. It’s a distinctly floral scent but there are some spicy notes – basically it just smells good!
Finally, getting festive wouldn’t be complete without a night out. My first festive drinks were at my work Christmas party on Friday. I wore this Faux Leather Wrap Dress from Topshop and Aldo black courts – Similar here, which I hope to feature in a party dress edit very soon. Once again I brought out my festive side with touch of red. My lipstick is Walk of Fame by Sleek and I’ve lined my lips with L’Oréal’s Infallible Lipliner in Apocalypse Red
As always, I’d love to know what you do to get festive.
