  • What Neckline to Choose for your Body Type.

    Happy Monday!

Just a quick post on my excitement of finally understanding what I’m doing in terms of styling. If you’ve been following me, you’ll know that I am very much on a journey. Call it reinvention, call it living my best life- whatever it is, it’s taken tome for me to hone my style choices and I really feel like I know what I’m doing.

    Blue Knit Top, H&M

Recently, I’ve been playing with v-necks and I can honestly say, for my inverted triangle body type I.e. my shoulders are broader than my hips. After years of online shopping and thing being hit and miss, it suddenly occurred to me that I really like v-necks. After a bit of research, I realised this is not some crazy coincidence, according to many a style guide the v-neck is perfect to my body type. In the same way a cinched waist and and a-line skirt are.

It’s so important to know what cuts suit your body type so I thought I’d lay down a few pointers on cuts to go for.

    • Inverted Triangle or atheistic shape- shoulders broader than hips – look for v-necks, wrap tops and asymmetric cuts. Say no to shoulder pads.
    • Apple- you carry most of your weight in the top half of your body with minimal waist definition. Wide neck lines suit you and if your comfortable with it also deep v-necks to accentuate your bust.
    • Hourglass- think Beyoncé, your waist is small while your hips and bust are fairly well balanced- pretty much anything looks good on this body type as long as the waist is cinched.
    • Rectangle- very little curves, shoulders, hips and waist are in line vertically. A good sweetheart neckline will suit you best. Choose more relaxed fits and avoid figure hugging tops unless you plan to create some drama on the hips and shoulders.
    • Pear shape – you carry most of your weight on the bottom half, think Kim Kardashian- you need drama on top to balance out your hips and if you do it right, you can reach coveted hour-glass status. Go for cowl neck lines, but also v-necks and kimono style tops.

I hope you like this post and found it informative. I plan to make more how to style posts. If there’s anything specific you would like me to research and feature, let me know in the comments.
