My baby shower was last weekend. My cousins organised it and aside from some initial involvement in coordinating them, I had no idea what to expect. So as a style conscious momma to be, ‘ what to wear to your baby shower’ was the only obvious question.
It’s hard really. You have a body that’s getting bigger each week so buying something too far in advance is a risk. Leaving it to the last minute is even worse as you might not find anything. If you wear something really loose you’ll be comfortable, but might pass for a tent in a forest and if you go too tight someone might slather butter on you. Ok, so slight exaggeration but you get my point.
Originally, I thought I’d go for the whole Chrissy Teigan’s and Kim K look, a fitted dress and duster jacket combo. My rationale was by going for a stretchy dress it’s likely to fit and it’s perfect for showing off your bump. The duster jacket simply adds a nice silhouette also you can float around the room greeting your guests and not jiggle all over the place. That’s what I thought, in the end I just looked like a sausage. I think you need to be a certain height to carry off the look. Being the bad blogger I am, I didn’t take snaps of all the potential outfits I bought to try. Suffice to say they’ve all gone back to shop, but you can get an idea below.
One thing I did learn in this process is, cheap and cheerful doesn’t always work. Most of the issue I had with the items I chose is that they just didn’t look good enough, I don’t seem to have much luck with Boohoo and ASOS own brand these days.
In the end I found myself getting down to the wire. My shower was held in Birmingham so me not having an outfit on the Thursday night when I was due to head up Saturday morning, was less than ideal. I did what I always do in these situations and had a good look through the Next.com website. They offer next day delivery for orders placed before 12am.
I ended up picking up a really nice jumper dress from Abercrombie & Fitch. The cream cable knit effect is right up my street. Paired with my new over the knee boots from Steve Madden, I had the right amount of leg on display and still got to show off my bump. So I would say, if like me you’re on the shorter side, go for a short dress with a nice mid-heel.
Well the shower went well. We had a fab time, good food, family and friends. What more could you want.
