  • 4 Ways to get Organised in the New Year

So, 2022 is coming to an end and as we approach the ultimate fresh start, the New Year, I’m thinking about some of the ways I can be more organised in 2023. Ways to reduce all the mental clutter and be more productive, well more effective anyway.

I’d love for you to share your ideas and tips on how you’re getting organised. Of course this isn’t an exhaustive list but hopefully you’ll find these tips as helpful as I have.

    Staying Organised

    Note taking and journaling

As a mom, a partner, a career woman, co-business owner and now blogger, it’s easy to feel overwhelmed by the many hats to wear.

I currently use OneNote to flesh out my content idea and write blog posts. It’s also a place where I journal and keep my thoughts in check. Journaling is so important, being able to offload the stresses of the day but also being able to track your thought processes and how your feeling is so useful. OneNote is a free Microsoft App, the paid version gets you more storage but you won’t need to spend a penny to get set up and benefit from most of the features.

I’ve been using OneNote since 2018 and o love looking back at past entries. I’ve been able to see that over time productivity is a major hang up of mine, always looking for ways to plan and stay organised. The only thing that seems to have stuck during that time is OneNote. I’ve also realised that success is mainly in the doing. Yes, planning is important but don’t let that drag you in to a state of inertia.

I’ve also taken back up bullet journaling as a way to organise my blog content ideas and plan actions to take. There’s just something about writing that feels more creative and being able to flip the pages and see how various things connect is important. I picked up this Yop&Tom dot grid journal on Amazon and I love it. You can go all out with personalising your pages but broadly I’ve kept to the simple bullet journaling system- comment below if you’d like to understand more on that.

Bullet journaling helps me to keep focused. It forces you to think about the month ahead and to know where you need to execute.

    Emails

I don’t know about you but my personal Google inbox is a mess! Well it was and then I actually went on a physical desktop PC and archived all of them. Now I’m receiving the emails and making a concerted effort to delete, archive, action or unsubscribe from them all.

Keeping a clear digital space is key to having a clear mind, for me. Do we really need all those promotional emails? No, so unsubscribe so that you stop receiving them all together. This is also great, if like me you’re an impulse buyer. Referring back to the bullet journaling, I find that I am much happier with my purchases if I first think them through. Also, this is definitely a must should I realise my personal style blogger goals

    Physical Mail

Again, keeping these piled up by the front door is not doing our sanity any good. It’s also key to not spending hours each Christmas break looking for documents for our accountant! On this note, go paperless. For most things these days, you can request communication by email. Just another way to stop receiving more fuel for the recycling bin… you might even save a few trees in the process.

    Seasonal Planning

As I said, the New Year is the ultimate fresh start but each season is also a mini one. Seasonal planning is something I want to incorporate more in to my life and online content. Planning in events, updates to our home and wardrobe is all part of my living better. I’m hoping this will help me be more consistent with content on my blog.

Also, just stopping to take a moment to reflect on what has gone well and what should be improved in the months ahead seems like a great way to ground yourself in the moment and re-centre on what’s important.

I’d love to know what you’re focusing on for 2023. How are you keeping organised! Done any seasonal planning, I’d love to know your hints and tips!
