Hey lovelies, happy Tuesday, so full disclosure, I ran out of my YSL All hours Foundation. If you read my blog you’ll know I love this stuff. As someone who’s had trouble with oily skin, it seemed to be the only stuff that actually stayed in place despite copious amounts of blotting. That said, when I got to the last pump, I figured why not try something new in the realm of foundation.

If you roam the beauty world, you’ll have heard of the latest craze- anti pollution makeup. So when I was in Superdrug the other day, in the knowledge of my impending YSL All Hours depletion, I browsed the Maybelline counter and came across their Dream Urban Cover Foundation which not only touts anti-pollution properties, but also contains SPF 50.

I chose shade 360 (mocha) which is a perfect match colour wise. It’s meant to be full coverage, which I would agree with, but it is not thick so if you have more textured skin you might not think it’s thick enough. It also suits normal to dry skin types, which seems to fit my description lately, following some skin care changes.

The SPF factor is the big draw! This is especially important if you use resurfacing products like retinol, or Alpha and Beta hydroxy acids. These help to regenerate skin cells, then exfoliate the dead skin. The effect being skin more sensitive to the sun while using the products. If you want to preserve your newly generated skin or just protect you skin from sun damage in general, this is a good way to double up on SPF.

So, what’s anti-pollution then? The general science is that tiny particles of pollution, often smaller than the size of pores, get in to the skin and this leads to inflammation. The foundation is enriched with antioxidants such as vitamins E and B3 which form a protective barrier against pollution.

The main reason I wanted to review this foundation is I really like it. Following an incident with the misuse, by me, of a retinol product- let’s just say don’t use a NoNo hair remover then put retinol all over your face 3 days in a row. I really don’t feel like the foundation is caking in to my currently sensitive skin.

Definitely a great all rounder and from a brand I’ve used for years.
