  • Protect Hair from Heat Damage

Hey lovelies, it’s Wednesday and today I’m talking about heat damage to your hair. As someone with Keratin treated hair and a huge fan of wearing it straight, I am prone to using my straighteners about once a week, perhaps twice if I’m going somewhere extra special. If you have ever had a Keratin Treatment, you’ll know that it involves using a flat iron to seal products in to your hair. Whilst I’d agree that my hair has never been in better condition than it is now, growing to a length is never has before, it’s safe to say heat damage is always a concern. So, for me, it is really important that I use products that will protect hair from heat damage.

When it comes to wash days, I’ve come to believe, most of the time, you get what you pay for. Whilst I’m not saying that all affordable products are rubbish (they are not) I like to buy the best of what I can afford. Kerastase is a brand I have come to know and love. The products are a little pricey, but I think it’s worth it.

Check out this post to read more about my hair journey but after washing I apply the Kerastase Shampoo which has heat defence technology. Just to be on the safe side, I always follow up with my L’Oréal Elnett Satin Heat Protect Styling Spray and Kerastase Resistance Reconstructing Milk. You can call it going double Dutching, but I think both of these really help to protect hair from heat damage in the blow drying process.

If I then decide to straighten my hair, I’ll then follow up with the John Frieda Frizz Ease in extra strength. Flat irons apply direct heat to the hair and can deconstruct your curl pattern. I want straight hair so to me that’s not so much the issue, I just don’t want dry and brittle hair. This leads me on to my forth defence, a steam straightener. The one I have is not the best on the market, but it’s affordable and does the job. Mine is by a brand called Raphycool, it’s currently sold out on amazon, but I know better quality ones exist. Steam straighteners are another way to protect hair from heat damage.

If you like this post, I’d appreciate if you could comment below. Should I do a follow up post on steam straighteners? Also, let me know if you use heat defence products and what you favourites are.
