My bloggerversary is next month and over the last almost year of blogging I’ve gotten a better understanding of what I like, love, or hate for that matter. One thing Ive been obsessed with lately is MAC Cosmetics.
There’s probably nothing new I can tell you about this brand. It’s definitely where I started my makeup obsession way back when the high street didn’t stock makeup for anyone darker than sand. Now, times have changed and there is a way more diversity. It’s to the point where if you are launching new ranges that don’t cater to darker coloured sisters and beyond, don’t be surprised if there’s a massive woo-haw of bad publicity.
That said, as much as Mac was my original, I didn’t really go beyond foundation. Maybe it’s the Instagram and YouTube effect, but I find myself venturing out in to products I didn’t know I needed, but now call essential. As I delve further in to the world of beauty, I’ve decided I need a base – no pun intended, I mean, I need a benchmark. I feel like if I’m going to try new things, I might as well start with a brand I trust. From there, it’s then a case of, is this better than what I already have from Mac. There’s loads of choice out there and I don’t want to go around wasting money being someone else’s ginny pig.
So here’s a few bits I picked up recently that are firmly in my daily makeup wardrobe…
Mac Studio Fix Foundation shade NW55 – here’s the kicker, I don’t actually use this as foundation. I went in to Mac for a consultation and I mentioned that I was interested in a bronzer. I like a good highlight, but it just doesn’t have the same effect without something to warm up the putter edges and damn it if I’m going to walk around with visible lines of demarcation.
She mentioned that she had seen good results from using a powder foundation as a bronzer and I do love how it looks.
MAC Mineralize Skin Finish in Gold Deposit – True bronzers don’t really shimmer they are ment to warm up the contours of your face. That said, I do like to add a bit of extra glow. The pigmentation in this stuff is to die for. So important when you’re dark skinned and nothing shows up on you or worse leaves you looking like a ghost. I add this just above my bronzer but under where you would put a highlight.
MAC Pro Longwear Concealer – I’ve been toying with the idea of using the NARS creamy concealer and such, but as I said earlier, I want to use MAC as a benchmark. Again I’d used this concealer before, years ago, so when I was in the shop it was no hardship to give this a go again. I’d been using the L’Oréal concealer for a while now, but very much felt it was time for a change. The L’Oréal one will always be there if I’m in a bind, but I find you really have to let it dry to get the full coverage my dark circles and bags need.
MAC Lip Pencil in Chestnut – I bought this shade as an all rounder, it’s quite dark but that means it will help me blend lighter nude lipsticks to match my skin tone. I’ve owned the Plum shade for years and now that I’m actually getting back in to makeup that too is getting fair use. It’s more of a purple tone, as you would expect being called Plum and that means it turns light nudes in to more of a pink when I want to go for a more beige/light brown effect. These lip liners last ages, so I plan to try a few more shades
MAC Matte Lipstick in Whiri– in my search for the perfect nude ( which I still haven’t found) I came across this lovey brown pink shade. Mixed with the Chestnut lip liner, it’s more the brown I would like, but it still adds a little colour with the pink undertone.
