  • The Importance of Knowing Yourself

Hey my lovelies, today I’m talking about the importance of getting to know yourself. I’m changing direction a bit and whilst style will always be a huge focus on the blog I want to do more around lifestyle and emotion. This world is hard to navigate, but if I can help one person not to have to learn the hard way like I am, then that’s rewarding in itself.

So, last week, I discovered my Enneagram. Without getting too heavy, it’s a bit like Myers-Briggs, if you’ve ever come across that. In essence, it identifies 9 different personality types, people then have a sub-type which is called a wing. I found this site particularly helpful for understanding which type I am, but most say you should just read the different descriptions and you’ll know which one you are, when it hits you in the gut, ha. I did that after and then agreed that I’m an 7w8. It gets even more granular when it discussed the level of growth we’ve reached.

I’m a planner by nature but I’m also very social and I like a little luxury every now and again. Some would even call me a bit scatty, definitely outspoken. In terms of what makes me tick, I don’t do well with rules and pointless routines. Fundamentally, I have an overactive imagination and love to plan the future so much I forget all about the here and now.

All of this resonated so much when I read it, especially in terms of planning. I often find my self coming up with new master routines designed to optimise my life, I’ve used every productivity and to-do app going, don’t even get me started on my blog. The problem is I make all of these plans and do jack with them. I might last a few days or weeks even and then I make a new plan. It’s all a vicious circle toward wasted time because ultimately there is no master plan. All I need to do is experience life as it comes and be cognisant of taking on too much.

The point of this post isn’t really to prescribe this test to anyone, but it is a tool I’ve found useful in the quest to better understand my tipping points. Over the last few months I’ve had a few epiphanies that are leading me towards clarity- I talk a lot about that in this post. The overarching theme to all of it is to live in the present moment. Yes we can plan for better but don’t always chase that at the expense of right now.

I’m still on the path of self-discovery. Would love to know if you’ve come across enneagrams before? Which one are you? Or, if you’ve had any epiphanies let me know in the comments
