  • Winter Boots

I have a confession to make, I’m a style blogger and I did not make one fashion purchase during the sales. I just wasn’t feeling it. Call it experience, but I can’t make that age old mistake of blowing my Christmas bonus in the winter sales. If I am going to make conscious and better decisions then impulse buys are out, well to a degree, and planned shops are in.

Whilst it’s safe to say this winter has been mild so far, my shoe collection is severely lacking some sensible shoes. Specifically, and as the title says, I needed some winter boots. So I did my usual trawling and kept coming back to a few pairs that I love and wish could all be in my collection.

For me a winter boot needs to be functional, warm and chic. They also need to last me more than a season, so all my choices are leather and will hopefully be hardwearing. Let’s take each in turn and I’ll explain why I’ve chosen them…

Trendy but real Hiker– I have no qualms about disclosing my love of reality tv. It’s not even a guilty pleasure! When you spend all day researching stuff and doing spreadsheets, the last thing I want to sit down and watch is anything taxing on the brain. This is why you will catch me in front the box for I’m a Celebrity each year. This year was a particular treat as each evening we got to see what Holly wore next- it was like watching a very slow one person catwalk. The outfit that really stood out for me was the black dress, waist belt and the Nanette boots by Grenson. Anyway, it was love at first sight and sadly a little out of my price range. That said, Grenson is an English heritage brand that’s been around since the 1800 so while these boots are on trend, of all the choices they are actually the most practical.

The White Hiker – ok, so this pair by Calvin Klein gets a feature because they’re pretty. Yes they are functional too, but if you actually wore them hiking chances are they would look worse for wear when you got back, oh and you might have issue with the platform. I love the black and white contrast and if you want something a little different then this is definitely one way to go.

The Heeled Hiker – this is my second favourite. I am not convinced I won’t buy it anyway, as I think it fills a gap in the style staples that a flat hiking boot can’t- the I know I look cute in these and I’m only 5ft 3 so I need the extra height and you better not tell me they are a health and safety risk boot…. I think they are just so well structured. Sam Edelman is Abrams that keeps popping up for me and I am eager to get my hands on a few things from the collections.

The Classic Hiker – so these are the ones I went for, some Dr. Martens. What really tipped me over the edge to get these and not the Sam Edelman ones is, 1) they are flat and therefore innately more practical 2) when my boyfriend saw me looking at them he was like, you still haven’t bought those? So clearly I’ve wanted them a long time. I cannot wait for them to arrive as I am excited to style them with both feminine pieces and more casually.

Let me know if you like any of my choices! I’m really hoping the Sam Edelman ones don’t sell out before I can get to them.
